Player Name: Yaywon Character Name: Kon Shinonome Character Series: Amatsuki Canon Point: Chapter 24 Preferred Housing: n/a
Background: Kon Shinonome, a part-time school student and computer hacker, finds himself in the Edo era after visiting a virtual exhibit sponsored by Sensai. He gets attacked by the nue who leaves scars down his right arm, rendering it useless and somehow manages, through his pain and terror, to survive. The old woman who helps him directs him to Shamon, a Buddhist priest, whose only conclusion is that Kon had been misplaced due to the nue and that there was no way for him to return to his time.
Needless to say, Kon freaks out. But after two years of adjusting to the reality and to the era he now lived in, Kon felt...oddly comfortable and more amused than he had ever been back in the modern day. He has his theories about waking up in the Edo era, theories that ranged from magic to the entire thing being a virtual hoax, but he could only wonder until he met Tokidoki Rikugou. Toki turned out to be his fellow classmate and someone who had also been in the exhibit the day Kon had been, but had only just appeared in this era now. At first wary, Kon warms up to Toki who manags to amuse Kon with his antics. Kon and Toki even team up together to play a prank on a samurai who had bothered Kuchiha earlier. Unfortunately, this draws the attention of the priestess Ginshu of the Sakagami Shrine, who invites Toki to visit her.
Kon and Kuchiha decide to accompany Toki and the three eventually reach the shrine, only to be attacked on suspicion that they are ayakashi or demons. With the misunderstanding cleared up, Ginshu asks Toki to work with her to destroy the demons of the world. Instead, Toki decides to break the demon curse that was placed on Ginshu ages ago and leaves with Kuchiha and one of the priestesses to find out how. Kon stays behind, mostly because of Ginshu's suspicious behavior. He soon finds out that the curse is what keeps Ginshu alive and if it breaks then the priestess will die, but is prevented from taking action by falling into a sleep spell.
He wakes up only to see Ginshu defy the gods and lose. The loss invites Teiten to "rewrite" the lives of all those that were involved with the priestess. Kon runs, but is eventually swallowed up by the darkness and falls to Teiten's manipulations.
Personality: From his first canon appearance, Kon comes across the type who keeps to himself. He has a good head on his shoulders, capable of making sensible decisions on his own, and has spent a good amount of his life looking out for himself. His peers have called him a 'delinquent', a 'guy that's quick to pick fights', but he's taken these names in stride. People assume the worst of Kon primarily because he doesn't bother explaining his actions to them. And while this may seem kind of cool, it's also a big hint to how Kon views the world (or at least modern Tokyo). It's not worth conforming or pleasing the people around him, nor is it worth maintaining a pleasant, unnoticeable facade. To truly live is to do something. To go against the rules and pursue the things that are interesting without worrying about what everyone else is thinking. This is why Kon is continuously finding, making, breaking, or putting his nose where it doesn't belong because that's what he loves doing. He has a tenaciousness about him that comes off as admirable to his friends and flat out annoying to his enemies. He's not the type to beat around the bush and will ask the awkward questions if no one else does.
Once you get past his 'rough' appearance (dyed hair, obvious disregard for the dress code) and his woefully short temper, you'll find that Kon is actually a friendly, casual guy (though he will draw the line at selfless giving). Kon embodies the 'I scratch your back, you scratch mine' principle. He'll help others out with the expectation that the favor will be returned someday. He's a guy with a strict code to uphold, though others may call him a swindler. (Oh you want a favor? You'll owe me.) Speaking of his "woefully short temper", Kon's preferred method with dealing with idiocy is violence whether it's through kicks, punches, or just flat out yelling. He can't stand people who pretend to be slow or stupid and he hates condescending and patronizing attitudes as much as the next guy.
Kon enjoys fights, puzzles, and all types of problems that can't be solved with one look. On the other hand, he chafes under control and unwanted guidance. So if you ever wanted someone to figure out something for you, then Kon is your guy. Unfortunately, he doesn't play by the rules which sometimes inconveniences the people around him. He also doesn't trust easily. He may be easygoing, but he is far from naive. Kon understands people. They're greedy and they're going to do stupid things. He doesn't expect a lot from them. Fortunately, living in Edo has helped him a little in that aspect. Back in modern Tokyo, Kon isolated himself from other people, but in Edo he finds it easier to befriend the common, hardworking, Japanese man. These are people he can respect - people who work doggedly at their way of life, unlike his spoiled peers in the present.
Kon's pretty blunt. If he doesn't like you then you'll know. And while that aspect of his personality may come off as unlikable, it has also helped him make the few relationships he treasures. His friendship with Toki and Kuchiha isn't the type of friendship that's survived all obstacles and withstood the test of time. He's only met these people recently (two years for Kuchiha and his high school years with Toki) and yet they've somehow left an impression on him. Maybe it's because they're similar to him, straightforward and honest without a single deceptive bone in their body. He feels at ease when he's with them. Sure he fights with Kuchiha almost every day and sometimes he can't stand Toki's idiocy, but he honestly doesn't mind (and it's fun to tease them).
